Executive Coaching
You’ve made it to the executive suite - congratulations! But along with the pats on the back come new challenges with greater consequences, many of which you might not have previously faced. Are the people who have surrounded you in the past going to get you where you need to go in the future? Have you ever been given the gift of genuine, caring feedback about your leadership behaviors and your team’s effectiveness by someone with no hidden agenda... someone motivated only by your success? Are you clear about what leadership skills are most needed to be successful at your new level?
Take Your Performance Even Higher
It’s unlikely that you made it as far as you have unless you were very good at many, many things. Knowing what those things are is as important as understanding where you need to make improvements. Every world-class athlete has a coach to help them refine their talents - to win consistently. Without that objectivity and caring observation of behavior, even the most talented person will stagnate.
A Behavior-Based Approach to Executive Coaching
CLG’s executive coaching process is behaviorally-based. This means that we focus on behavior - what people actually say and do – rather than their “intentions” or “motivations”. What matters most is what their words and actions convey and achieve – and this is our focus.
Our methodologies work because they help your leaders pinpoint specific things they are saying or doing that may not be working to their advantage. Conversely, we spend a lot of time being sure your executives know what is working for them - through the eyes of their colleagues and direct reports. There is often a gap between an executive’s self-perception, and that of his or her team. Our process involves interviewing the people who work with and around your leaders. We don’t use surveys or data as our primary source of information – instead we engage your executives’ teammates and colleagues in sharing real stories and examples so that they, perhaps for the first time, truly understand the feedback coming in.
As an example, one of our clients told us that executive coaching helped him to understand a weakness that, until now, he’d chosen to ignore. “I’ve heard I’m a bad listener for most of my career, but this is the first time I understood what it was that I was doing that led people to have that impression.”
